I have been conjuring up a remedy to combine my three most favorite herbs for ultimate healing. I give you my skin-healing salve! Let’s briefly talk about these three herbs.
Comfrey – Comfrey has been cultivated as a healing herb since at least 400 B.C. The most common uses were to treat heavy bleeding, treat respiratory problems, and wound healing. People would make poultices out of comfrey and apply them straight on the wound or even use it to mend broken bones!
Lavender – Lavender, oh, sweet lavender! This herb was also used by the ancient Egyptians and Romans. It was used for the mummification process, cooking, perfume, bathing, or just as a room freshener. Lavender has many first-aid benefits since it’s both antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. It’s calming, soothing, and refreshing all in one!
Frankincense – Frankincense is technically a tree, not an herb. It’s a sacred tree that is mentioned in the Bible, and the ancient Egyptians used it for ritual purposes. Frankincense helps with producing healthy white blood cells, which is crucial for healing ailments. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and is a mood-enhancer.
This is a very mini overview of these wonderful natural healing allies that the earth has provided for us.
So I took these herbs and created a skin-healing salve. I grew the comfrey and lavender in my very own garden, and the rest of the ingredients were sourced locally. The recent feedback I’ve been getting is it speeds up wound healing, is excellent at tattoo healing, takes the itch out of bug bites, is extremely moisturizing, and stops the spread of rashes and heals them. This salve is my go-to when I’m doing any outdoor activity, and I’ve also used it on my pets!
These allies can be used in many ways other than a salve, but this is my favorite way to incorporate them into an all-in-one healing balm.
